about

This song explores The Plague Of Justinian, a pox that swept over the known world starting in 541 AD. This disease would come to be known under a different, more universally known name almost a thousand years later...The Black Death.

lyrics

In the times of the mighty Byzantine
Procopius told the tale
Five forty one in Pelusium decere would not prevail
And the curse that would third the world a millennia after would smite
The eastern Roman Empire and plunge them into night

Ten thousand dead a day
When the curse it did begin
Open sores and darkened hands of black obsidian
for centuries the infestation would stay
Wouldn’t go away
The plague of Justinian

By the end of the story there were millions in the grave
And a sobbing breath of sweet relief
They thought their god forgave
But the unseen plight would rest until the dark age came to pass
And it would ravage all the known world and it’s kill count would surpass

Ten thousand dead a day
When the curse it did begin
Open sores and darkened hands of black obsidian
And for centuries the infestation would stay
Wouldn’t go away
The plague of Justinian
